UK premiere of ‘The World Rejoicing’

Edward Gregson’s new work for brass band, The World Rejoicing, commissioned by the National Brass Band Associations of Belgium, Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland and the UK, finally received its UK premiere at the 2022 British Open Championships, having been postponed for two years due to the Covid pandemic.  Referred to by various commentators as ‘Gregson’s superb score’ … ‘a masterful score’ … ‘wonderful music’ … there were also lengthier descriptions:

Gregson to be interviewed on BBC Radio 3 prior to UK premiere of ‘The World Rejoicing’

Edward Gregson is to be interviewed on the BBC’s ‘In Tune’ programme by Katie Derham on Thursday 8 September at around 6.15 pm to talk about the UK premiere of his test piece The World Rejoicing (Symphonic Variations of a Lutheran Chorale) which is to take place at the British Open Brass Band Championship on 10 September at Symphony Hall, Birmingham, UK.

Seventeen of the UK’s finest bands and the Paris Brass Band will each perform this test piece, which was due to be premiered at the British Open in 2020, but was postponed due to the Covid pandemic.

Gregson to be featured as BBC Radio 3’s ‘Composer of the Week’

Edward Gregson is to be the featured composer in the BBC Radio 3’s Composer of the Week series, which will broadcast this month. There will be five programmes, to be broadcast daily at 12 noon, from Monday 14 February.   Gregson’s music will be featured alongside that of his composition teacher Alan Bush, with whom he studied at the Royal Academy of Music between 1964 and 1967.
