Edward Gregson’s new work for brass band, The World Rejoicing, commissioned by the National Brass Band Associations of Belgium, Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland and the UK, finally received its UK premiere at the 2022 British Open Championships, having been postponed for two years due to the Covid pandemic. Edward Gregson is to be interviewed on the BBC’s ‘In Tune’ programme by Katie Derham on Thursday 8 September at around 6.15 pm to talk about the UK premiere of his test piece The World Rejoicing (Symphonic Variations of a Lutheran Chorale) which is to take place at the British Open Brass Band Championship on 10 September at Symphony Hall, Birmingham, UK.
Seventeen of the UK’s finest bands and the Paris Brass Band will each perform this test piece, which was due to be premiered at the British Open in 2020, but was postponed due to the Covid pandemic.
