The Latin American premiere of Edward Gregson’s Tuba Concerto will take place in Peru later this week. Although the concerto has been performed in many countries around the world this will be its premiere in South America.

The performance will take place in Lima on 3rd October at the Gran Teatro Nacional with soloist José Vera and the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional Juvenil Bicentenario, conduced by Pablo Sabat Mindreau.

Concertos Concert

As part of its artistic programming at the Gran Teatro Nacional, the Bicentennial National Youth Symphony Orchestra presents the second edition of “Concertos Concert” (Concierto de conciertos), a program that, under the baton of its conductor Pablo Sabat, includes a repertoire of outstanding composers such as Tchaikovsky, Dvorák, Gregson and Cueto. This presentation will feature the special participation of the following soloists José Vera (tuba), Reina Dios (violin), Pedro Alfaro (flute) and Leo Barraza (cello).

About the Orchestra

The Bicentennial National Youth Symphony Orchestra was founded in 2003 with the aim of providing the tools that allow the development of capacities and talents in the young musicians of our country. In this way, it fulfils two of its main goals: to spread academic music in our society, and to consolidate the education and professionalisation of the new generations of artists. In its more than twenty years of existence, the OSNJB has become one of the country’s leading symphonic groups.

About Jose Vera

Jose Vera belongs to the new generation of professional tuba players in Peru. Graduated from the National University of Music in Lima, Jose has played along various Orchestras in the area such as National Symphony of Peru, Romanza Lima Opera, Peruvian National Police Orchestra, and some others.  Jose is tuba player with the Bicentennial National Youth Symphony Orchestra and Callao Regional Symphony Orchestra.
