A new CD of Gregson’s brass band music will be released on 27 January 2017 at the RNCM Brass Band Festival in Manchester, UK.

This is Volume 6 of the ongoing series on the Doyen label of Gregson’s brass band music, a series that commenced in the early 1990s with Gregson himself conducting some of his major works for brass band: Connotations, Dances and Arias, Horn Concerto, and Of Men and Mountains. Once again it features the famous Black Dyke Band, conducted by its Musical Director, Nicholas Childs.

The CD release comes at the conclusion of Gregson’s year as Composer-in-Association with the band and features a wide range of his music, from his early composition, Patterns (1974), to his most recent music, the Cornet Concerto and Four Études. The disc also includes a new performing edition of his major ‘Messiaen’ work, The Trumpets of the Angels, whilst the title of the CD, and the opening work on the disc, Dances and Arias, is the music he wrote in 1984 for the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain, held at London’s Royal Albert Hall.
