Edward Gregson is writing a new work for this season’s BBC Philharmonic series at Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall. The BBC has commissioned a new work to go alongside Mahler’s Sixth Symphony for the Mahler Symphony Cycle which runs from January 2010 until June 2010 and is a collaboration between the BBC Philharmonic and Hallé orchestras.
The new work, entitled Dream Song, will be given its premiere at a concert on Saturday March 27, 2010 by the BBC Philharmonic under its Principal Conductor Gianandrea Noseda.
Dream Song is a 20 minute work for large orchestra, dramatic in structure and content. It uses certain ideas, or motives, from Mahler 6, but paints them onto a different canvass, albeit one that still uses a post-romantic world of expression.
