Edward Gregson visited Brussels at the end of last month to attend recording sessions for his new Tenor Horn Concerto, which Belgian tenor horn virtuoso Tim De Maeseneer commissioned from him. Subtitled ‘Three Gods’ it is an 18 minute work in three movements, and is of symphonic proportions.
The composer commented: ‘What a great recording session. Tim was on top form as were Willebroek Brass Band, the leading band in Belgium, under their conductor Frans Violet. The Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles has a wonderful concert hall acoustically and it all sounded top notch. My heartfelt thanks to them all and to World of Sound’s Adam Goldsmith and Nicki Tonge, as well as Belgium composer Wim Bex for their excellent sound engineering and production.
The CD will be released on the Doyen label next January at the Royal Northern College of Music’s International Brass Band Festival, where Gregson will be the featured composer in his 80th year.
