On Saturday, 6th May King Charles III will be crowned in Westminster Abbey in London.

The Coronation will be watched by millions of viewers on television screens around the world.  In Taiwan, Hermes Wind Orchestra will celebrate this momentous occasion with a performance of Edward Gregson’s The Kings go Forth under the direction of its British conductor, Douglas Bostock, a friend of the composer.  The performance will take place at exactly the same time as the Coronation in London (6pm in Taiwan).

The Kings go Forth is a dramatic work, which portrays the balance of power between the Church, the State and the people. It includes the singing of monks, off-stage fanfares, antiphonal timpani, a solo tenor, a raucous jazz interlude with electric bass guitar, and an Irish folk group, with a female singer, violin, recorder and a rustic drum. The composition concludes with a coronation scene.
