Welcome, a short five-minute work for boys' voices, organ and brass ensemble, was commissioned specially for the Royal opening of The Bridgewater Hall, Manchester, in 1996. The text is simply built around the word 'welcome' in a variety of languages, from European to Hebrew and Arabic. Although the work opens serenely, it soon becomes more joyful and exuberant, thus fitting the nature of its genesis.
