Reviews

This is a CD that should be in every brass band lover’s collection for three very good reasons: Edward Gregson, James Watson and the Black Dyke Mills Band.  The playing is of the highest order throughout … and there is much to admire, not least the fine ensemble playing in Essay and The Plantagenets.  James Watson is the soloist in Prelude and Cappriccio and again demonstrates that great style and turn of phrase that are his hallmarks … There are many good things about this disc, but the main thing is that the Band sounds in marvellous form.  At one time subtle and sensitive, and the next so exciting it sends shivers along hour spine.

Paul Cosh, British Bandsman, December 1995

Magnificent playing from the world’s most famous brass band on this second volume of Edward Gregson’s music. The quality of the compositions is one thing, the standard of playing another … A must for any serious banding enthusiast.
