The World Rejoicing (Symphonic Variations on a Lutheran Chorale) has been declared the winner of ’Test Piece of the Year’ by the brass band website 4barsrest.com. The work also received the same award in 2021 for its performances in the Netherlands and Switzerland. It was chosen out of nine other nominated works.
The World Rejoicing was commissioned as the set test piece for their national competitions by five European countries in 2019, but because of the pandemic all the national premieres were postponed for over two years. Edward Gregson is to be interviewed on the BBC’s ‘In Tune’ programme by Katie Derham on Thursday 8 September at around 6.15 pm to talk about the UK premiere of his test piece The World Rejoicing (Symphonic Variations of a Lutheran Chorale) which is to take place at the British Open Brass Band Championship on 10 September at Symphony Hall, Birmingham, UK.
Seventeen of the UK’s finest bands and the Paris Brass Band will each perform this test piece, which was due to be premiered at the British Open in 2020, but was postponed due to the Covid pandemic.
