Edward Gregson’s new cello concerto, A Song for Chris, premiered in May 2007 at the RNCM International cello Festival and dedicated to Christopher Rowland, the former Director of Chamber Music at the Royal Northern College of Music who sadly died recently, is to receive a second performance.

The College will be holding a memorial concert for Chris on Tuesday 16 October to celebrate his life and achievements. The concert, which will be held in the Haden Freeman Concert Hall commencing at 7.30pm, will feature quartets and students who studied with him during his long and distinguished tenure at the College. Among the performers will be the Elias and Navarra quartets.

Edward Gregson will himself conduct this performance of his cello concerto as a tribute to Chris. Liwei will again be the soloist (he will be flying in specially from Singapore) with a specially formed chamber orchestra of RNCM students.
