The recently released Chandos CD The Symphonic Euphonium II, which features a performance by David Childs of Gregson’s Euphonium Concerto with the BBC Philharmonic conducted by Ben Gernon, has received the award of Solo CD of the Year by Brass Band World magazine.

David studied at the Royal Northern College of Music when Edward Gregson was Principal and is very familiar with his music, having grown up in the brass band world, so when the opportunity arose to commission the Euphonium Concerto he was very excited.  In an interview with Brass Band World he said:

From the outset, Eddie had a clear idea of what he wanted to compose and, when it comes to writing for brass, there aren’t many composers more experienced than him.

On a personal level, it’s extremely humbling to see the disc receive this award in such esteemed company.
