This fanfare was originally written for the wedding of David Honeyball, a friend of the composer from his student days. It was later revised and extended and first performed at the opening concert of the 1978 St Bartholemew's International Festival of Twentieth Century Music. It is scored for large forces - four trumpets, four horns, three trombones and tuba, with organ, timpani and percussion.
