Edward Gregson has written a new work for the Bridgewater Hall’s ‘Mahler in Manchester’ Festival. The BBC has commissioned a new work to preface a performance of Mahler’s Sixth Symphony. Entitled Dream Song, this new work for large orchestra will be given its premiere on Saturday March 27, 2010, at Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall commencing at 7.30pm. The BBC Philharmonic will be conducted by its Principal Conductor, Gianandrea Noseda.

Dream Song is a 20 minute work for large orchestra, dramatic in structure and content. It uses certain motives from Mahler 6, but paints them onto a different canvass, albeit one that still uses a post-romantic world of expression.

There will be a pre-concert discussion about the new work at 6.30pm, between Edward Gregson and Peter Davison, the Bridgewater Hall’s Artistic Director.

The concert is nearly sold out but some are still available from the Bridgewater Hall Box Office
